It’s one of the mysteries that always fascinates me – how do you record your voice?

As with any sound you can’t see it, so you have to imagine the waves of sound like Disney and Fantasia did all those years ago.

We really are spoiled for choice today as we can record some excellent music using a computer and a simple set up with a USB microphone plugging straight into the computer. Amazing stuff.

I’m not going to go all geeky on you, but the choice is pretty overwhelming. When you speak with the kind people that are sound / studio engineers you realize that many of them take professional courses lasting years to pick the best mic for the job.

As that idea doesn’t suit most people, I looked for a kit that would also hide the sound of that annoying computer fan – which makes you sound like you’re talking underwater!

With users such as the BBC, MTV and Universal studios this basic set up must be doing something right.

The ‘trick’ is to have a vocal booth which screens out the background noise and concentrates the sound into the microphone. Sounds simple, but can be very, very expensive. Luckily the kit I found was only a few hundred to do what I needed and is significantly cheaper than hiring a recording studio every day

Makes your YouTube videos sound superb too.

So the microphone choice boils down to the SL150, SL 300 or SL600 with the Vocal Booth sound screen. That makes it a personal preference with whatever budget you’re working with.

This one of those slow burning songs that always seem to crop up, especially around the festive season. It is hard to listen to hear to a song that is over 25 years old without realising how many different memories it hold for all the people who have listened to this great music.

Would mother like the beach today?

I love to go to the beach today, so posting some new designs in my store. I know its Mother’s day in many parts of the world and I hope your mother has a great day. If you cant be near, at least think about her.

Last year I bought my mother a handbag, which was lovely with many secret compartments, one of which contained an umbrella. It was fantastic, it had a purse with a build in make up kit and mirror, a place to keep your keys safe. Probably one of the best designs I have seen for ages.

My mother, she loved it to. But as I liked it so much, she said I could keep!
It was not really her style.

So important thing to know with Father’s Day coming up, make sure you get something your Dad would like. Beers and sport socks do get tiresome year after year. Spice up his life with one of the funky Dad t shirts. And make his day more memorable for the right reasons.

You can also find some great designs for Mother, just in case you forgot to buy a present as you were on the beach.

Wherever you are, preferably at the beach, make sure you are protected against the hot sun, drink plenty of water (yes you can have other stuff too) and have a great Mother’s Day

Kiki Dee Band – I Got The Music In Me 1974

Kiki Dee is an inspirational performer from the 70′s. This song, if you listen to the lyrics, is actually quite challenging.

It allows women to go out and just enjoy themselves, without needing a reason. After all Girls Just Want to Have Fun!

You can see how fashion has changed, but are they coming round full circle?

One of the best things about this video is it is a live performance and it puts the X-factor to shame as the musicians clearly can play their own instruments.

The upbeat nature of this song can lift even the darkest moods. Avoid classifying it as Disco, it is a much better song and performance then what you currently hear in charts worldwiide.
